Tethered Expat? Yep, living abroad in the world of international schools, tethered to Canada and tethered to my insulin pump.
This blog has two purposes:
1) Trying to connect with the Diabetes Online Community (DOC), since the traditional face-to-face communities are harder to come by. Probably more humourous than serious, I hope you enjoy the stories I post and help me to connect with other T1D’s trotting around the globe, carting supplies, staying active, dealing with jet lag and doing their best to carb count with foods that just don’t appear on the standard lists … duck head anyone?
2) Share my thoughts and solicit those of others in the international education community. I’ve been overseas since 2002 working first as a MS science teacher and currently as a MS principal. It’s a very sweet gig … kind of a “have your cake and eat it too (just be sure to count the carbs)” sort of deal. Work is play and I’d have it no other way.
And if you have any advice on how to improve my blog, ways to link in with others, do this whole community thing better, please don’t hesitate to tell me. I like to think I’m always learning!
